Brandon Escobar, "Esco" as most know him; is a Honduran American wrestler from Long Island, NY. Born in East Elmhurst, Queens, he lived 4 years in Honduras before moving to Suffolk County, Long Island, where he started school, and spent the majority of his life.
Starting in the 8th grade, Esco gravitated towards the sport of wrestling because of its complexity and grind. He graduated from Rocky Point high school under the guidance of National Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee, Darren Goldstein. While at Rocky Point he was mentored by Matthew Sanga (Cortland All American) and Mike Torriero( Rocky Point's first state champion, WVU Alumni). Esco credits much of his success to them.
Esco would later train at prestigious centers such as The United States Olympic Training Center and the NYAC (New York Athletic Club) under the guidance of Coach Nick Catana.
Due to his smaller stature, Escobar decided to leave his field of competitive wrestling at the end of 2011. He then chose to try his hand at coaching internationally. Over the years, Esco had trained/coached many Suffolk County and New York State champions including Nick Piccininni (4X NYS Champion, 3X All American at Oklahoma State), and Adam Busiello (5X NYS Champion 6X NYS Finalist, 6X Super32 National Champion).
Thus, he was content with the idea of becoming solely a coach. However, Honduras National/Olympic Team coach, Humberto Torres (1991 Junior World Greco Roman Champion), would advise him otherwise. After meeting with Coach Torres about a coaching position at Team Honduras, Escobar was given the opportunity to rejoin the world of wrestling; competing against national champions from around the world. From coach, to athlete overnight.
Wrestling for Team Honduras, Esco believed he could grow wrestling on the international level, and 3 months later he was competing at the Pan American Olympic qualifier. He earned a spot for the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London, and became Honduras' first wrestling Olympic Qualifier.
He earned medals in Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling on the international levels from 2012-2018, as well as returning to college in 2020.
Coach Vougar Oroudjov (2X World Champion, 2X Olympian, 1996 Olympic Bronze medalist, and head coach at Vougars Honors Wrestling on Long Island, NY), Head coach at Nassau Community College, invited him to wrestle for the team. Esco earned All American honors under Coach Vougar's guidance.
Esco got the idea to visit Jackson Wink MMA Academy from the Netflix Series KINGDOM. Having previously visited/trained at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, and Renzo Gracie Academy in NYC, Escobar knew exactly what he was looking for. Jackson Wink MMA had all the missing pieces necessary to bring out the complete fighter in a seasoned wrestler.
Esco offers his wrestling knowledge to all those at Jackson Wink fighters in hope of adding to the already accredited world renowned name. Currently still a National team member for Honduras, Esco trains with some of the best coaches, and athletes around the world. In hopes of elevating the level of wrestling around him.
Esco credits his jiujitsu skills to C. Ryan Quinn and Tony Bergamo, both Renzo Gracie black belts and students of world renown coach, John Danaher.
Brandon Escobar also has 12 Amateur MMA fights and he has a great understanding of MMA in general.
